It’s time again for the annual Rose City Yarn Crawl!
This event is a fun way for fiber lovers of all stripes and stitches to connect with yarn stores and other enthusiasts in Portland and the surrounding area. 2014 is the fifth year the RCYC has been held, and it continues to be a fun and inspiring event. The yarn crawl runs from February 27th – March 2nd. Interested parties may join up with groups from their local stores or form impromptu groups of their own to travel to stores throughout the area. Events this year include a Yarn Ball, mystery knit and crochet-a-longs, and a variety of trunk shows and giveaways at many of the stores. Visit the RCYC website to stay abreast of all the scheduled events.
Print out your passport for a chance to win prizes! With 18 shops participating in the crawl, participants have a chance to win one of two Grand Prize baskets, or one of 18 First Prize baskets. Knit Purl has provided some excellent prizes and we hope to see many of you (and stamp your passports!)
During the crawl, we’ll be featuring trunk shows from both Bumblebirch and Alpha B, two amazing local dyers that you’ll find on our shelves. Each brand has a unique approach to color on a variety of luxurious bases — don’t be afraid to squish a few skeins!
Stores in the crawl commissioned designs that were added to the Rose City Yarn Crawl Pattern Collection — this year, our piece is designed by the ever-talented Lydia Tsymbal, who created a beautiful scarf inspired by reflections of downtown in surrounding waterways and puddles. Appropriately titled ‘Reflect,’ this pattern will be available for free with purchases made at Knit Purl during the yarn crawl.
This event is a favorite among many Portland knitters, and we’re finding ways for our readers who aren’t local to participate too. In upcoming newsletters, you’ll learn more about what yarns set Knit Purl apart, and next week on the blog we’ll have a virtual tour of Knit Purl for those of you who haven’t been to the brick-and-mortar store.
