The design team at Shibui Knits is known for their skill at unconventional juxtaposition. Grittiness versus elegance, modernity versus tradition--the combination of these apparently paradoxical ideas are what make Shibui's unique aesthetic so compelling. Their latest work is no exception. Shot in misty Astoria, Oregon, and featuring designs by Kristin Ford and Sara Morris (both Knit Purl alumnae!), we're so proud to introduce the latest booklet from our sister company: Shibui Texture.
Texture features crisp black and white images selected to show off the richly textured garments in the book. Twisting cables, deep ribbing, and dropped stitch patterns give these knits a pleasing tactile quality that we can't help but touch. Inspired by traditional fisherman's Aran and cabled sweaters, the rustic styles are paired with plush Merino Alpaca and silky Staccato for the perfect blend of ruggedness and elegance. The designs in Texture have achieved the ideal balance of fashion and function, with chic sweaters, vests, and accessories that will keep you warm even on the chill, foggy seaside.
And the timing of Texture's release couldn't be better. Just as we were dreaming of adding a splash of color to these lush designs, in came nine brand new hues of Merino Alpaca, featured in five designs from the book.
Merino Alpaca is a springy aran weight yarn with excellent stitch definition. It's dreamy for cables and textural stitches, as seen in the pages of Texture, but even plain stockinette stitch looks extra-special when knit with this smooth yarn. Its soft blend of merino wool and baby alpaca will keep out even the most bitter winter cold while staying comfortable and breathable.
These new colors round out Shibui's solid line, which includes 14 nuanced shades for a fashionable fall wardrobe. They're perfect to mix and match with Shibui's other solid lines, Staccato, Baby Alpaca DK, and Silk Cloud.
NEW! Sara Morris's Bandon shown in Ivory
Our rainbow of Merino Alpaca brings the touchable garments in Shibui Texture to new heights. Imagine the boxy cabled Nehalem pullover knit with royal purple Velvet, or the dramatic Bandon cardigan in deep navy Suit. Or, if you prefer a more neutral palette, cool grey Ash or ebony Abyss are perfect for timeless wardrobe staples.
With such luscious knits and cozy yarns abounding, we're excited to feel the first autumnal chill in the air! The classic designs in Shibui Texture knit with enduring Merino Alpaca are sure to keep you warm and stylish through this season and for years to come.
