We've been keeping a secret for months and couldn't be more excited to be able to share. A year ago, Jared Flood of Brooklyn Tweed had an amazing and almost impossible dream - a truly all-American 100% wool yarn. After a lot of research and a year's worth of work, Shelter was born.
Sourced from American flocks, milled and dyed in New Hampshire, this lovingly created wool is an homage to the once-heralded American woolen industry. A Targhee/ Columbia blend, the yarn itself is a lofty 2-ply worsted weight that feels lighter than air.
Designed by a wool-lover for other wool-lovers, Shelter is a truly flexible yarn. The bounce and firm ply structure enables it to create sculptural cables, downy lace, and surprisingly weightless colorwork. Each skein weighs in at 50 grams and has 140 yards of light worsted weight yarn to play with.
Available in 17 specially-cultivated colors, courtesy of our artistic dreamer, each tweedy hue is actually a blend of several base colors. Ranging from soft and enveloping neutrals to rich, vibrant jewel-tones, the palette is easily the most coordinated collection we've ever seen.
Join us in the store today for a launch party as we serve mimosas in an informal swatching area we've set up for the occasion. Not in Portland? Shelter is available on our website and we'll be posting an in-depth review of the yarn and its creation on our blog this coming Monday.
Available in less than ten yarn stores across the country, Shelter is
truly a limited release and we are very proud to be able to offer it to
our customers. Also released with this amazing new yarn is a collection
of Fall patterns by Jared. The perfect pair, his ideal yarn and
world-renowned design skills, this is one of the best Fall releases
we've ever encountered and we think you'll agree.
