DUPLICITY PULLOVER
The main fabric of the garment is knit on US 5/ 3.75 mm needles, with
the MC yarn, Tsumugi
Silk, held double. The CC, Wool/
Stainless Steel, is also held double for more body and
definition. The overall effect of the pure silk tweed and crisp
stainless steel is a sharp juxtaposition of new and old.
While we love the industrial color-scheme of the original (shown right) and the verdigris look of our own version (above), we'd be doing our readers a disservice if we didn't share some of our favorite color combinations.
Here they are - our staff suggestions, just for you! |

We've had a lot of interest in this particular pattern over the past week. Our own shop sample (shown left) has created quite a stir and collected a wide assortment of compliments and questions. In response to all this interest, we've done our research (so you won't have to!) on the requirements of this cool and classy piece.
It's rare to find a garment that will fit a range of sizes, ages, and styles. The raglan has done just that for centuries, and always looked good, but even good things need a little additional spice every now and again. Both traditional and modern, soft and sharp, the Duplicity Pullover from Ori Ami Knits is
youthful without being immature, classic without being boring. Instead of the standard up-and-down silhouette, the designer has included bust shaping and wide raglan 'seams', giving the finished garment a more tailored, fashion-forward fit.
While, at first glance, the pullover looks like it consists of two layers - an ethereal lining under an opaque and tweedy body - this is a trick... hence the name. The contrasting eye-catching cuff and collar details are actually picked up from inside the sweater, after the garment is finished, giving the garment the illusion of layers without bulk.
Moreover, the designer went a step further, by offering bust circumferences ranging from 32" - 50" around, making it available to a wider audience
- 32 (34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50)" bust
- 1497 (1590, 1684, 1778, 1871, 1965, 2058, 2152, 2248, 2339) yards MC, and 515 (547, 580, 612, 644, 676, 708, 741, 773, 805) yards of CC
With just 4 - 6 cones of Tsumugi Silk and 2 - 3 cones of Wool/ Stainless Steel, this sweater can be made for less than $120 - starting at under $80 for the smaller sizes. How often do economy, style, and creativity intersect?
Admittedly, the designers behind Ori Ami Knits set out with that exact goal in mind - to create beautiful, functional, inexpensive, and utterly unique knitwear that could be worn for years. Without a doubt, they've met their goal with this pattern... and then some!
