PORTLAND YARN CRAWL

We hope you haven't made any plans for next weekend! Or, at least, any that don't involve the first city-wide Portland Yarn Crawl. It's going to be huge as we celebrate Portland's fibery diversity with special events for three whole days.

We've been planning for months and are very excited to announce that we've pulled together a trunkshow triumvirate that is not to be missed!

Mix and match patterns and yarns from the incomparable Habu Textiles, best-selling CoCo Knits, and ground-breaking Ori Ami Knits. We'll have, from March 5th through 7th, garments from all three collections for yarn crawl participants to see in person and try on.

Moreover, we will be hosting special classes all weekend, giving crawlers a chance to sit down and relax - while learning something new. Add in a raffle for some pretty amazing prizes (see below), and this is an extravaganza you won't want to miss!

Not a PNW native? Don't worry, we're not going to leave you out. We have a very special weekend planned for you, too. Keep your eyes peeled!

ORI AMI KNITS BOOK PRESALE & TRUNKSHOW

Authors Olga Buraya-Kefelian and Vanessa Yap-Einbund came together with a simple and brilliant concept, to design a collection of wearable, affordable, and still unique garments using the unconventional yarns of Habu Textiles.

The result is a stunning series of garments that would not seem out of place on a Parisian runway or in your favorite upscale boutique. With patterns for everything from jackets to shells to maleable cravats, the designs in this book will inspire and enthrall you.

Want to learn more about Ori Ami Knits? Visit their website or come see these magnificent designs in person during the Ori Ami Knits trunkshow. Don't live in Portland? Catch a sneak peek of the patterns in the garment preview on ravelry and add them to your queue!

LEARN HOW TO KNIT FOR YOURSELF

It's refreshing for women (and men!) of all ages, sizes, and tastes to discover a design (knitwear or otherwise) who considers their needs when creating new patterns. Julie Weisenberger of CoCo Knits is one such designer who works with you in mind. Her pieces can fit into a variety of wardrobes and compliment an even wider variety of figures and ages.

Come see all the many patterns Julie has designed during the CoCo Knits Meet & Greet on Friday, March 5th. We'll have her trunkshow on hand, including several brand-new patterns, for customers to try on. Find your own perfect fit, sip champagne, and meet the creative mind behind the best-selling pattern line, CoCo Knits.

Already have your CoCo Knits pattern picked out but need some help? Julie will be teaching her technique-packed Finishing & Design class on Saturday, March 6th. Learn how to make your handknits look more professional and tailored with short-row shaping and English Tailored Shoulders.

The class will also cover blocking and seaming pieced garments, as well as designing or adapting patterns to suit your needs. An absolute must for beginning to intermediate knitters, this one-day workshop will change the way you look at garment construction forever.

EXPLORE HABU TEXTILES

While Japanese may be an entirely different language from English, Japanese patterns are another matter altogether. Though a little daunting at first, these oft-inspiring patterns and kits from across the Pacific are actually within the average knitter's grasp.

Learn the skills needed to read a Japanese knitting pattern in one hour with Takako Ueki, owner of Habu Textiles, during her popular Reading Japanese Patterns workshop. This quick and easy class will cover reading Japanese schematics, understanding their shaping instructions, and knitting from a Japanese pattern yourself - all without learning Japanese!

Never be intimidated by kanji again after this fun and informative class. Afterwards, Takako will stay to host a Habu Textiles trunkshow for students to explore.
