- Why does shipping cost so much?
Due to recent changes in service by USPS, only packages weighing under 13 oz can be mailed by First Class Mail (that's just three 100g skeins of yarn!). In light of these changes, we have moved to charging shipping by parcel weight. Whenever possible, we will strive to send packages in the most timely and economic manner. ALL packages, regardless of quantity or contents, will be shipping with Delivery Confirmation tracking. In cases where an order contains only books or patterns, we reserve the right to ship by Media Mail (see above), because it is still traceable and will arrive in a timely manner.
- Why doesn't your website recognize my account anymore?
If you haven't placed a web order with us since August 1, 2009, this is because we have changed website servers and no longer access previously stored information. Please create a new account to place a new order.
- I've forgotten my password, how do I login to my account?
Click here to have it mailed to you.
- What is your return policy?
Unused yarn in its original condition may be exchanged for store credit within 120 days of purchase. When exchanging yarn, shipping costs to and from Knit Purl will be your responsiblility. All return shipments must be insured. We cannot accept responsibility for exchange items lost or damaged in shipping.
We do not accept exchanges on books, needles and accessories unless items were damaged in shipment. Knit Purl will pay any shipping costs associated with replacing damaged merchandise. Please include the damaged merchandise and a description of the damage along with a copy of your original receipt, your email address and your shipping address.
Unused yarn purchased online at knit-purl.com may be exchanged at our store in Portland, Oregon, and damaged items can be replaced if you bring the damaged items and provide a copy of your original receipt.
- How secure is my information?
We protect your credit card information with several layers of strong encryption during the ordering process. Once we've verified that the contents of your order are in stock and can be shipped, we'll charge your card and then delete your credit card information. We value your privacy and your personal information just as much as you do.
- How accurate are the colors in your yarn photos?
All monitors display colors differently. The color you see might be slightly different from the color we see when we're posting our photos. If you have a question, please call us toll-free at 866.656.KNIT and we can help you choose colors.
- I saw something on your Newsletter several months ago, how do I find it again?
We have a Newsletter & eCard Archive that we are actively updating weekly with new and old mailings. If you cannot find a specific pattern or article, please contact us.
- My husband/ relative/ best friend will be traveling to Portland soon - can I send them to you? Or, can I place an order online and have them pick it up?
We're always glad to help (non)knitters find gifts or wish list items. In general, it helps if the visitor has a list for us to work from. If you're a registered user on our website, you can always print our your wish list or gift registry and send it with your shopper. If you place an order online, be sure to select "Local Pick-up" instead of shipping when checking out. We'll make sure your order is ready for in-store pick-up by the next business day. Please call us in advance if you have special circumstances.
- How do I care for my knitted garments?
Most hand-knitting yarns are best cared for by soaking in lukewarm water with a capful of Eucalan or Soak and laying flat to dry. Some yarns, including superwash wool like ShibuiKnits Sock or Handmaiden Casbah, can be machine washed but will last longer and look better when hand washed and dried.
- Do you knit garments on commission?
No, we do not.
- Do you offer any garment finishing services?
No, we do not. But we are more than willing to recommend several accomplished knitwear authorities who have finishing businesses, including
of Unfinished (knitting) Business. If you would like more information on these services, please contact us.
